Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers: Lions aim to keep pace with Packers in NFC North
When the Green Bay Packers host the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football live on Sky Sports Action and Main Event the battle for the NFC North heats up.
This is what to expect…
Detroit (2-1-1) are coming from an early bye and have just been defeated by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs – at a 34-30 thriller in Week Four.
Before that match, the Lions overcome the Chargers at home, kicked off his year in Arizona with a tie and surprised that the Eagles in Philadelphia. They stay one of just five teams in the NFC who are yet to reach two losses but are the NFC North team that has not had a branch game nonetheless.
The Packers (4-1) stand alone on top of the North, also opened up the season with 2 division wins – at the Bears and in home to the Vikings.
Their one blemish came to a Thursday night after they were beaten at home by the Philadelphia Eagles in Week Four, and also their two wins a week came and above the Cowboys.
Lions QB Matthew Stafford is having a fantastic season. His quarterback rating is at a career-high markers (102.6) plus he has thrown nine touchdowns to only two selections. Additionally, the last time that he took his team at Week 17 – into Lambeau final season, the Lions blew the Packers 31-0 out. He wont be intimidated.
We thought running Kerryon Johnson will be greatly featured for Detroit, but hes just managed 62.8 yards per game on the floor and two total TDs all season. The Lions have had lots of success – the two Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones have over 240 receiving yards. Jones has averaged 15.4 yards per grab, whereas Golladay has four scores at four different games.
Lions cornerback Darius Slay is expected to start although suspicious, and hes a ball-hawk at the secondary. He would make life hard for Packers game.
Aaron Rodgers has been brilliant from the Lions. He has a 13-5 record along with a 109.0 passer rating, the highest of any quarterback with at least five starts against Detroit because 1950. The 35-year-old has had a relatively quiet start to the season by his own standards just six touchdowns (and yet another select ) – but hes been efficient. He is able to lighting up the Lions at any time.
Rodgers is without his target, Davante Adams, thus last week, it was running back Aaron Jones – both in the game and the passing. Jones was the leading recipient – with seven grabs for 75 yards, and then he also scored four touchdowns on the ground. It could be all Jones again .
Defensively, the Packers began strong and have regressed, but are becoming contributions from all over. Blake Martinez is next in the league in tackles (55), Preston Smith (5.5 sacks) and also ZaDarius Smith (5.0) are bringing the warmth on the pass rush, and they have playmakers in the second. But, newcomer Darnell Savage will be missed – hes out for this one.
